The Politics Major: Options and Opportunities

The undergraduate program in politics is one of the most popular at Catholic University. Students in the major can choose to focus on one of three sub-concentration fields – American government, political theory, or world politics. Many students also get hands-on experience in the world of politics through off-campus internships, including on Capitol Hill, in the executive branch, in government agencies, and in non-governmental organizations. Politics majors are encouraged to participate in study-abroad programs offered through the University, including the British Parliamentary Internship program.

Politics students at CUA are expected and encouraged to take classes from a wide range of disciplines in order to achieve a solid foundation in the liberal arts. Graduates of the program find career success in a wide variety of fields.  A survey of recent graduates found that the most popular post-graduation fields included government and politics (17%), business and private sector employment (17%), non-profit work (15%), and graduate school (13%); others have pursued careers in foreign service, law, lobbying and advocacy, and communications.
